£175.00
here is an ultra cool and very rare vintage smith corona scm ghia manual typewriter, in fab orange retro colour
This dates from the 1970s, and was designed as a side project by Tom Tjaarda and Alejandro de Tomaso
The typewriter is in very good condition , it has a few age related marks here and there, mostly on the actual cover ,(these are not serious at all,),which is only used when the typewriter is not being used or being transported when not on display but nothing at all serious, i have put a new ribbon into the typewriter and it goes really well !
all in all a real chance to own a retro quality designed item ,that is a fab colour and of course can either be on display or used !
Detroit-born Tom Tjaarda is arguably the world’s greatest living car designer. Argentinian-born Alejandro de Tomaso was one of the world’s major independent car makers.
In a little diversion from normal business, in 1970 Tjaarda and de Tomaso designed a highly distinctive portable typewriter and its equally distinctive case.
The typewriter is called the Smith-Corona Ghia-design Super G.
Tjaarda and de Tomaso briefly put aside cars to design the Super G for Smith-Corona Marchant, to be manufactured
the cover of the machine has a ghia badge and a ;sports car style stripe' also instead of rubber feet the typewriter has a black band resembling tyres, the carry handle pulls out from a moulding. some really clever and nifty ideas, the actual typewriter is more square lines of the trend of that era.
